Apartment in the Eixample Esquerra: from office to family home
We renovated what used to be the offices of an advertising agency and turned them into a home for a family of five and two dogs, restoring the original mouldings and ceiling roses of an apartment in Barcelona’s Eixample Esquerra.
From advertising offices to a family home in the Eixample Esquerra
We renovated the apartment with one clear priority: restoring and highlighting the building’s historic features.
In Barcelona’s Eixample Esquerra neighbourhood, we turned the former offices of an advertising agency into a home. We redistributed the space to suit a family of five and two dogs, without giving up elegance or contemporary furniture.
From office to home, without losing the building’s memory.
We painted the entrance hall a deep blue, which sets the tone for the rest of the home.
We chose a large antique mirror from India to preside over the entrance hall, lit by an imposing lamp. We finished the rest of the apartment in white to bring more light into every room.
The main bathroom
The main bathroom: antique marble and bespoke cabinetry
We divided the main bathroom into two areas.
In the first area we placed the washbasin, with a custom-designed vanity unit and antique mouldings on the doors, and antique marble taps.
Recovered heritage
Preserving the original character: ceiling mouldings and roses
We restored the original ceiling mouldings and roses and left them on display throughout the home.
Being on the first floor, the apartment has the privilege of a 300 m² terrace in the very heart of the Eixample. The original ceiling mouldings and roses, which we restored one by one, crown a canopy bed from MB’s Sistema Midi collection: we left the canopy open and did without a central light fitting, so the owners can see the ceiling roses from their bed.
