Mireia Torruella is an interior designer trained at BAU, specialising in apartments in the Eixample and upper Barcelona, alongside interior design projects throughout Catalonia.
I am Mireia Torruella, interior designer and founder of Júlia Brunet, the interior design studio in Barcelona where I lead every project from start to finish.
Born in Vic, I now live and work in Barcelona, specialising in apartments in the Eixample and the upper city, though I develop projects throughout Catalonia: Maresme, Osona, Bages and Empordà. Trained in graphic design and interior design at BAU, with previous studies in Advertising and Public Relations at INSA Business School and an IDE Master’s, I combine a compositional eye with the technical rigour of more than 100 completed projects. I am your direct point of contact: from the first sketch to the handover of keys, every decision on the project goes through me.
Before becoming an interior designer I worked in advertising and graphic design: that mix still defines how I approach every project today.
I studied Advertising and Public Relations at INSA, and then the Degree in Graphic Design at BAU, where I learned composition, visual balance and colour theory. I also grew up in a family connected to furniture (my father was a manufacturer and my mother ran a multi-brand shop), so materials and proportions were familiar to me long before I designed my first space. In 2014 I realised that what truly moved me was how a space can improve the life of the person living in it, so I began the Degree in Interior Design at BAU, combining it with my first projects.
All my training as an interior designer took place in Barcelona, across advertising, graphic design and interior design. These are the schools and programmes that define my criteria today.

As an interior designer, I am not after a result that impresses in a photograph: I want the layout to resolve the flow between rooms, to provide enough storage for daily life, and to bring natural light into the areas where most time is spent.
Every project starts with the floor plan and functionality, before aesthetics: how natural light enters, what each room needs and how everyday uses coexist. As an interior designer, I treat the material palette, the lighting and the furniture as one coherent whole, not as separate elements.
I don’t do one-off interior decoration over what is already there: when needed, I rethink the layout from scratch. I work with honest materials (solid wood, natural stone, lime and fine textiles) because they age well and keep their character over the years.
My style comes from two very specific references: the light and materials of the Mediterranean, and the composition I learned in graphic design.

My graphic design background gives me an additional criterion: I understand each space as a composition, balancing proportion, colour and light. The result is timeless interiors with a character of their own, made to feel right today and twenty years from now.
I live and work in Barcelona, specialising in apartments in the Eixample and the upper city, as well as commercial spaces in the city and its metropolitan area.
Outside Barcelona, I develop interior design projects throughout Catalonia: houses and farmhouses in the Maresme, Osona, Bages and the Empordà. In an Eixample apartment I work with mouldings and nolla mosaic floors; in an Empordà farmhouse, with the stone and arches already there. Before proposing anything, I look at which original features are worth keeping in each case.
My work as an interior designer has appeared in the sector’s leading publications.
I have worked with media such as CasaViva, ELLE Decoration, HOLA and La Vanguardia, and I have been a nominee for the Superluna Awards by IDE. I also collaborate with brands such as Vitra, Santa & Cole and Mutina, and I attend international fairs every year such as Maison & Objet, the Salone del Mobile and 3 Days of Design, where I follow new developments in materials and furniture closely without losing my identity as a designer.
These projects reflect how I understand interior design: different spaces, one shared starting point — preserving what has architectural value and working with honest materials.
